Recently I have been feeling the affects (effects? I get those confused….) of gratitude. Gratitude is extremely powerful at improving your positive mindset. Each night for the past two to three weeks I have been ending each day by writing out one thing I am proud of that I did or happened that day and one thing that I did to keep a positive mindset towards my goals. I read through all of them the other night and had an overwhelming feeling of gratitude. I am grateful for my previous experiences because they have shaped me into the person I am today, I am grateful for my friends and family because I receive the utmost support and love from them that allows me to be me, I am grateful for my determination, willingness to learn and grow and I am grateful for all the amazing blessings that have been given to me.
This time of year it is really easy to take things for granted and not realize the blessings you have in your life because you are wrapped up in the stress of the holiday season. Take a step back, remind yourself of all the good you have and all the blessings you have to be grateful for and pass that gratitude on to the next person. Last night I went to my sister’s basketball game and at halftime I went with my mom to the concession stand. With the remaining $7 she had she bought popcorn for the next 7 people in line. She didn’t have to do that. She could have walked away with $7 in her pocket instead of zero. But the thing is, my mom (and dad too) is one of the most gracious people I know. She doesn’t take things for granted, she works extremely hard for everything she has, puts others before herself just about in every situation, and now she gives back at every opportunity she has. I am grateful to have such a role model in my life.
My point is, as you are moving through this fast paced world, take a few minutes a day to recognize everything you have and be grateful for every single one of them. We are what we repeatedly do. If you continue to be grateful you will no longer have to think about it because it will become instilled in you and become a natural habit. The more grateful you are, the happier you are, the more you can make a difference in this world.
Moving on from all the heaviness of this post, this recipe is one of those that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside! This is the perfect drink to make throughout the holidays as you are all cozied up enjoying the winter wonderland and the company of loved ones. Enjoy and have the merriest of Christmas’s!!
