I have been wanting to make homemade bone broth since eating paleo 4 years ago and I finally made it! It was incredibly easy to make and has such amazing flavor compared to store bought broth. This broth is perfect on its own just by sipping it out of a coffee mug or adding it to a recipe like this Crockpot Beef Stew recipe which is exactly what I did. Bone broth simply comes from cooking bones with herbs and vegetables and a little acidity. Homemade bone broth has grown in popularity in the recent years because of all of the health benefits. It may seem strange to sip on a mug of bone broth, but for the benefits it is well worth it!
Bone Broth Benefits:
- Supports nutrient absorption
- Supports hair, skin, nails and joints
- Rich in amino acids
- Supports gut and immune health
Most grocery stores or natural grocers will sell bones specifically for broth. But my favorite part of making broth, no peeling or chopping the ends off of the vegetables! You can roughly chop a few carrots and an onion without removing any of the peelings. It makes for throwing this together incredibly easy. Then, you set the crockpot on low for 24-36 hours and go about your day. If you have never made bone broth before because you thought it was a lot of work and tedious (like I used to think), it absolutely is not. Go grab yourself some bones and vegetables and make your own hearty and healthy beef bone broth!
- 1.5-2 lbs beef soup bones
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 4 celery stalks, chopped
- 4 carrots, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic
- 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 tsp sea salt
- Add the soup bones and vegetables to a large crockpot. No need to peel the vegetables and garlic or cut the ends off. Cover the bones and vegetables with water and add the apple cider vinegar and sea salt. Cook on low for 24-36 hours.
- Drain the liquid from the crockpot to eliminate bones and vegetables. Store in mason jars or other glass container in refrigerator.
