Happy Halloween! Oh Halloween, I feel you either love it or hate it. Let’s just say you won’t be seeing me getting all dressed up and hitting up the town. I did plan on putting Avri in a cute little Halloween outfit that I ordered online, but when I took it out of the packaging it looked like it would fit me and not her. #momfail
I am not a candy eater either. Never really was. What I do love though are these Brownie Protein Balls. I wanted to share something somewhat festive today so I whipped these up and they are spootakular! See what I did there? Look at me, starting to tell mom jokes.
Let’s say you are a Halloween fanatic and love all the treats that come along with it. Enjoying some treats on one of your favorite holidays is OKAY! Eating some candy on Halloween isn’t going to make you fat. Just like eating a salad won’t make you skinny. It is what you do after enjoying the treats that is important. Get back on track! Getting back on track as soon as you can after a meal or day of indulgences is very important to obtaining a healthy lifestyle. There should be no shame or guilt about celebrating with treats because that is life. Life without some indulgences would be rather painful if I do say so myself. So how should you get back on track after handfuls of Halloween candy?
First of all, get rid of all of the treats and candy that is still laying around. Get rid of your kids candy too! This way you won’t be tempted to stick your hand in the jack-o-lantern again for just one more butterfinger. Chug some water. Make sure to get in plenty of water to help flush out your system, relieve any bloat and keep you hydrated. Have a healthy meal with lean protein and lots of vegetables. I’d recommend keeping this meal somewhat lower in carbohydrates. Get in some movement. This can be any form of movement like a walk, bike ride, exercise class or weight lifting session. Movement will help with digestion and put some of that candy to work towards your muscles. Indulgences and treats are part of life and should be enjoyed! So, enjoy them with zero guilt, in moderation and get back on track with healthy eating and wellness habits as soon as you can.
If you are staying in tonight and handing out candy to the little monsters that may be knocking at your door, make these Brownie Protein Balls! Skip the cheap, processed candy and make a homemade treat instead that is packed full of protein, healthy fats and lots of nutrients.
