What better way to start a Monday than with the simplest recipe ever that is delicious and uses clean ingredients? There is no better way, that’s what. I haven’t had sloppy joe’s in so long and I don’t know why because I’ve always loved them. So, I decided to make a Brooke approved batch and I am so glad I did. I am also happy that I used two pounds of hamburger instead of just one. I can’t wait to nose dive into these leftovers.
I enjoyed my sloppy joe last night over a baked sweet potato. It would also be good over a russet potato, a bun of choice, butter lettuce or just by itself. Don’t forget to add pickles on the side. Sloppy joe’s and pickles is the absolute best combo.
I used venison bacon for this recipe, but any bacon will work. If we don’t have venison bacon at home I like to pick up this No Sugar Added Uncured Bacon by Applegate. Their Uncured Sunday Morning Bacon is really food too! When it comes to the mustard, I usually have Thrive Market Yellow Mustard in the refrigerator. If I don’t, I pickup an organic yellow mustard at the grocery store. I absolutely love Thrive Market because you can find so many natural and organic items so much cheaper than in the grocery store. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you need too! Head over to Thrive Market and shop all their amazing products. You get free gifts, free shipping and can save 25 percent on your very first order! I love Primal Kitchen Foods ketchup. I recently got their new Spicy Ketchup which I used in this recipe. Any ketchup will work though. They have a regular ketchup too that I love. You can find those here and if you use code kissbybrooke at checkout you can save 10 percent on your order!
This recipe is perfect for a weekend BBQ with friends, to prep for the week or to make for dinner and eat the leftovers throughout the week.
- 2lbs grass fed ground hamburger
- 6 pieces of bacon, chopped
- ½ yellow onion, chopped
- ¼ cup yellow mustard
- 1 cup paleo ketchup
- ¼ cup coconut aminos
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- Place a large pot on the stove over medium high heat and add the bacon. Once the bacon starts to release grease add the onion. Cook until the onion starts to become translucent. Add the ground hamburger and brown until no longer pink. Drain the grease and place the pot back on the stove.
- Add the mustard, ketchup, coconut aminios, salt and garlic powder to a small bowl and mix well. Pour into the pot with the ground hamburger and mix well. Once hot, it is ready to be served.
- Enjoy!
